    Dr. Se Young Jang is a historian whose research focuses on contemporary Korea and Northeast Asia since 1945. Her work primarily concerns the domestic, regional, and global aspects of nuclear development in the region, including both civilian and military applications of nuclear technology. As a former South Korean diplomat, she worked in the field of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) disarmament and non-proliferation, and was selected as a United Nations (UN) Disarmament Fellow in 2009. She received her Ph.D. in International History from the Geneva Graduate Institute and conducted pre- and post-doctoral research at U.S. institutions, including George Washington University, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Dr. Jang has published her academic and policy-relevant works in various outlets, and is currently engaged in research for her new project on the history between the IAEA and the two Koreas, which is funded by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. She is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of History at the University of Vienna, having previously served as Assistant Professor of Korean Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands from 2019 to 2023.
