The Faculty of History and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna is pleased to announce the appointment of TWO university assistants ("prae doc") at the Department of History.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects / research studies in the field of history didactics
- Participation in publications / academic articles / digital publications (e.g. blog journal "Public History Weekly") / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement (2-4 SWS depending on the classification according to collective agreement)
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- Professional competence: completed teaching degree in history for secondary schools; teaching experience in schools
- Methodological competence: profound knowledge in the field of history didactics and civic education and familiarity with empirical methods of the field (e.g. through a very good diploma or master thesis), specialist knowledge in history, dissertation concept in the field of didactics of history and/or civic education
- Didactic competence: skills and competences in lesson design in the subjects of history and civic education, ability to communicate research results to the public
- Experience in the organisation of meetings and conferences
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are
- university teaching experience / experience in the organisation of e-learning environments
- academic and/or teaching experience abroad
- basic experience in research methods and academic writing
